art fashion

they have been shooting off mini fireworks constantly. i woke up at 5:00 AM because of an especiallly large batch. good stuff. anyway, this post has nothing to do with independence day. instead I wanted to talk fashion a little. The Times photo slideshow on the behind the scenes in Paris is making me want to make clothes again. Beautiful pics. Looking at them it reminds me of how much i love working with my hands and materials, fastening, fixing, combining. How pattern pieces fall together, how fabric drapes. I am gushing about it. I think I have been trying to figure out a way for my relics to be more like fashion. I don't want to be on either side but somewhere in the middle. i just like things.

FB, i totally get it, looking at those pix... your work is in some kind of parallel universe. A few years back there was a lot of hoopla about "art & fashion," but the resulting efforts were LAME-O. Meaning that there's a big ol' gap in the world of *things* for you to fill with yr talents and spesh visions. Definitely, do it!

hi, sloth!! oh my that bb is a kookoo head to post on that show. so nice. whoa.

i want to make stuff today. tired of the code toad. although - - good news is that i am officially going part time in about 2 weeks. same beige but less time here. my carefully laid plans are bearing fruit. phew.

Congrats FB!! On the part-time. So great!! Two days? Three?
As for the fashion connection--it makes so much sense for you. Not only with regard to your relics, but with regard to your incredible fashion sense in general. You always look so snazzy.

big congats on the part time! much better!

I must now go to Heart and see what his post says. Is he giving props to Cats? he should be.

so cool of Heart As Arena to post about the show and feature your work.

Q: What does he mean by "I wish Carlson could do dubs of her paintings. Even though I've finally begun to understand how to enjoy the whole package, I'd still like to see what's underneath too."
is that confusing or am I missing something?

Corny,
I wanted to pretend that I knew what he meant but I cannot lie to myself any longer. I'm not sure on this. Should we pressure him for explanation?

i don't really get it either. something about what is on top vs. underneath and maybe seeing the pieces un-meshed together? dunno.

hey fb, i'm gonna try to see your show thursday or friday, hopefully. i am not sure where any of these galleries are, but your show is near sunday, canada, and 31 grand?

i'll most likely be going to that 31 grand opening, but i saw that there is a good show at john connely - with ww - opening that night as well. are you going to be out?

it would be nice to meet you.

what happened to mountain man?

yo! i will be out and about on thursday for a little bit. yes - at a couple openings. i am tall and tend to move in a herky-jerky fashion.

smith-stewart is nearish to Sunday, etc. so you will be right there. cool!
