i am reading the omnivore's dilemma which i highly recommend. although if you are like me - - when you are only one eighth of the way through you will decide that the human race is doomed and horrible which leads you to think about capitalism and how it has mangled this country and fed off the poor people(whole other subject) through corporations/industrialized war machine and then how you are going to work at this very moment at the new beige and it's a fucking sham because you are working on ads for a credit card company which makes you part of the problem. this puts you in a bad place where the only option is to move to vermont and get solar panels and a well, get a small farm going and opt out. but maybe not vermont because you have to have a truck or jeep there probably and everyone drives which leaves you reliant on oil and polluting. plus when the bomb hits you will be too close to new york. so yes. this is how the day is starting out. these are the important questions that need answering. who will take responsibility for how fucked up everything else? according to my book this planet could never ever support the population it currently has without the mass amounts of industrialized corn we produce thanks to nitrogen fertilizer - which is created through fossil fuel. the discoverer of this fertilizer also was responsible for creating the poison gas used to kill people in concentration camps - i kid you not. we are using this planet up like a dirty greedy pimp. reading about feedlots this morning thinking about the cute cows and calves i sometimes see grazing in iowa when i am home. UGH. it's all so messed up. corporations do not take care of the earth or the people. money is their only interest and money cannot fix the earth when if finally gasps its final breath. aorry.
arthur and I sat next to gibby haynes last night at a restaurant.

sorry, reading that tirade i sound very collegiate and lame and general and yadda yadda. but today is one of those super depressing mornings and i had to perform an exorcism.
question: do you think we will get to have an apocalypse in our lifetimes? a mad max scenario? or maybe the aliens will come and kill us.
will that billy idol video with the clawing people in dirty ghost rag clothes become a reality?
i predict that arthur will become an organic farmer at some point.
fb, sometimes it is too much to contemplate. I don't like to think about the fact that the reason I am employed is because of annoying internet ads. I've disconnected myself from the content.
I'm moving beyond Thunderdome soon although if I hear that song, I will launch a post-nuclear nuclear attack. That's fair warning right?
krix, please tell me that you have a hand in the silhouetted dancing couples that advertise mortgages.
fb, I think I may have the answer right here:
http://newyork.craigslist.org/lgi/bfs/294597850.html
ha. can you imagine. i would also turn this place into a part soda jerk and bong store/vibrator palace.
YES fb, I love it. and wigs! you gotta sell wigs.
Yeah, it's a total bummer fb and I get down about it a lot, too. But thank you for Booze is my Bag, it really cheers me up every time I think about it. For real.
Heavy trip FB. Personally I dont see the madmax scenario in our lifetime but I'm optimistic. I'm amazed at the new Culture of FEAR® ads in the subways: "whats in your go bag?" If civilization breaks down you'll need a gun in your go bag (and some snacks)
I work in the belly of this mess. I have to quiet my mind about it. Isn't it sick about the fossil fuels feeding the crops? I read an article in Harpers a few years back about that and the writer decided to shoot and kill deer for his dinners. Isn't corn subsidized by the gov and an economy of corn syrup grew out of that? And the corn syrup makes American sick? It sounds conspiratorial, but isn't it about bad choices adding up to more badness.
hams, yeah - basically it's this spiral of badness that stems from perceieved productivity over responsibility (corporations and gov't policy that is basically governed by corporate america). the idea that fossil fuels are abundant. i will loan you this book when i'm done if you're interested.
nature has a fine balance in place that we see fit to completely destroy for profit/market/capitalism.
also, the nitrogen waste from the corn crops is killing the Gulf of Mexico... big plumes of dead ocean are spewing out of the Mississippi. But maybe this century will be the one where new technologies start to turn it all around, the way the last one saw so many diseases cured etc? This is the hope that has kept me away from the ledge so far.
I hope so Sloths. Could this be possible? I'm the little monkey with it's hands over his ears these days.... in the name of a positive attitude. But I would like to borrow it Fb. I have lots of your books to give back. You are very kind to lend them out.
My positive attitude is feeble lately.
in the spirit of positivity, sometimes a book can cahnge the course of things. Silent Spring by Rachel Carson created the environmental movement. . .without her they'd still be manufacturing DDT (in America.)
It's good that youbringing this out for discussion. The grossness that = corporations is really overwhelming and all-pervasive. Sometimes I do not know how to deal.
hi sloth and hams.
fb, the silohuettes do not haunt my domain. Thank god. I am responsible for the things that float across the screen. Well, I'm responsible for making sure they work if they break. it is sad for sure. I'm going to make up a profession for myself like Electric Wig Manufacturer or President Of All You See or Queen of Garbage or something that has nothing to do with advertising.
I've got my hands over my ears, shamefully. Last week's yoga class was about positive thinking, so I managed to laugh all through it out of the sheer impossibility of it all. It is so hard to remain positive if you read the paper or even watch T.V.
I am dark minded.
i am hoping for change krix and slothy, but it seems impossible. corporate control makes us seem so small and powerless. laughing yoga is what I need. HO HO HO, I hate all things.
HO HO HO, I hate all things.
this is a perfect xmas card slogan hams.
I am gearing up for another full day of 'nothing to do' here at the new beige. kill me.
perhaps today i can work on my life plan™
I'm here from 9am to 9pm. With nothing to do as well. Lets console each other, okay. Hang in there with monkey.
I brought magazines. oprah.
Potential suicide watch.
hams, what? 9-9?! that's like total suicide watch. it's 11:15 and i'm close to hitting bottom already. this sucks. i have have harldy communed with my relics lately instead sitting here wasting time for stupid money. butt nuggets.
is it too early for lunch?
butt nuggets I feel sick.
krix, I'm thinking the same thing. Lunch and dinner. The highlights of my life. How are you, krix?
i think i'm going to go get chinese take out today. tempted to do some online shopping but then i feel guilty spending money. i asked arthur to smother me last night in my sleep but he refused.
fucking art
I am gonna make myself some tacos now, beofre the vegetarian cleaning lady arrives.
Mmmm chinese food sounds pretty good.
Hams, don't do it!!! I'll miss you way too much.
there is a dog in the area of my new beige that sporadically wail howls. it just did. it's like the bell tolling for the dead in spirit drones stacked in their cubes all over manhattan. another down. usually he wails around 4 o' clock. how did i get so dead inside?
i think i'm just hungry maybe.
hams, I am well. I am about to leave my pen in search of grubs.
Shit!!! I so should have hung out. Gibby!
The dog howl is me. I'm sorry. I am barking for food. more. more. food.
yes, you hear my howl, i live in the beige behind your beige.
i need you to go on a rampage for me.
DO IT.
HAA - I know! Isn't that so weird? Not a half hour after speaking with you i was dining right next to gibby...
harvey. i am SO ready to go on rampage. so ready.
That is crazy, yo. Ever see that Butthole Surfer's doc that starts with Gibby running down the sidewalk naked in, like, Michigan or something? It gets no better than that, man.
did you follow gibby haynes home? do you know where gibby haynes sleeps?
gibby haynes must be first to go.

DO IT.
Hi FB.
I am a retarded dead person. Just wondering if you knew. If Arthur wants to join a retarded dead person in organic farming tell him I am willing.
Hi FB and MM. Can I join the The Tard Farmers of America club?
oy, this book is now attacking the 'industrial organic food complex'. i am going to start eating recycled paper and whatever i can grow in my yard i guess. i will collect my water from dew and sugars from the centers of the daylilies.
i have an ample supply of paper flyer s delivered to me daily. the fat albert circular tastes like mustard. the jcpenney flyer is more like a chicken nugget.
btw, never ever ever eat a chicken nugget.
mm, i am already retarded and dead so if you will have me on the organic farm i am so there.
my corpse can feed a whole biosystem. my ghost will work the field.
i constantly throw up on myself.
Mmmmm. Mustard. I will try that circular for lunch.
What is up with the organic food complex? Please detail.
I am starting seedlings for a million veggies in the apartment next month. I am sure I will have too many of a lot of things. You can have any extras for your garden FB. I am excited to farm.
re: organic food complex. i have just started reading this section but what I am gathering:
1. horizon dairy = bad, cows in a pen - feed corn, etc.
2. some organic chicken = all it means is that the chickens are fed organic grain and can run outside in a tiny lot for 2 weeks before they are killed. not at all truly free-range
3. commerical organic farms can be huge operations that are only slightly different from regular places. they still ship their product all over. (the environmental impact/cost of transport is something i hadn't thought of - book's premise is to eat local)
4. there is a lot verbiage on packaging that reassures the buyer but it can be deceiving. like the entire whole foods market.
i still eat complete crap. but am going to try and reassess the whole deal...
mm, i am also excited to get going on my plantings!!! i still have tons of arugula seed left from last year. Soon. It likes the cool weather I think. You must be so psyched. I mostly plant flowering plants.
really excited thinking about tomatoes and peppers and my herbs. the daffodils, tulips, irises, and hyacinths are starting to poke up. I planted like 60+ tulip bulbs last fall. i'm a complete freak.
This organic news is distressing. I am just gonna starve myself OR just eat cake and not pretend anymore.
http://100milediet.org/home/
fb, is your yard big enough for livestock? I am thinking water buffalo.
FB, will you grow some fresh mozarella for me. I am addicted.
fb, i must say, im sorry you are feeling down b/c all that you said is real and depressing, but i am also happy to hear you thinking about and feeling these things. i sometimes feel like a weirdo for not eating meat and being really adament about organic, and garbage creation, etc but i really truly feel that the way you spend your money makes a difference. dont buy into the evil. only buy meat that has treated the animal humanely. i know it gets expensive but i feel its worth it and you do what you can. dont buy crap you dont need! i dont mean to say i am better than anyone who doesnt think/live this way, but i wish more people would care to know what is really going on. i cant tell you how many people have told me that they dont want to know about factory farms because then they couldnt enjoy their meat. fucked up! anyway, fb, rememebr the house in vt with the solar panels and the ducks in the woods we went to. i totally have the vt fantasy too. i get sad by all the 18 wheeler trucks driving by my house all day every day, a never ending stream of products being brought inot manhattan. it is surreal.
hi gm! i think about that solar farm too. I am definitely going to try and do better with my choices- will have to formulate some kind of plan. everyone does the best they can i guess... but even if everyone does just a little bit that will add up. i'm going to look into urban organics again and with the warmer weather I can start growing my own stuff. I don't know. I'm a hypocrite too - went to starbucks today, you know?
i just read all the other posts, and yeah, i guess its true, the packaging could be lying regarding free-range. ive heard that as well. its gross.
sorry for the craxy long post!
i am a geek!
hi fb!
fb, are you going to the arctic monkeys & be your own pet show in may?
sloth, i will check into this!!
ok, so we have been buying this mik - "the organic cow" guess what? it's the same as horizon. i am trying to determine the good dairy to buy from. here is a scorecard:
http://cornucopia.org/dairysurvey/index.html
it looks like "organic valley" is rated 4 out of 5 and I see it around a lot.
whole foods brand and amish something score okay too.
hi fairy, i saw this and thought you might like it also -
