Backtrack 1993

I am raising my silver cup of friendly buffalo in honor of Pavement circa 1993. The outakes and b-sides from Crooked Rain are killing me this afternoon. This is all I want to do in art, condensed down to its shambling essence, the spatters and spurts, the noise, the beauty, the juxtaposition, the simplicity and complexity. The earnest but not. you got it pavement 1993.

bb, explain. I am curious. It's not really in style right now I guess but is there something else? I am curious.

many of my friend hate pavement and I often feel a teensy embarrased because I love them so much (well the earlier records are better, but I can take it all)

the buffalo salutes you!

or maybe we were the right age when pavement came around at first so it seems better, more true/poignant. know what I'm saying?

I like Pavement. I've listened to the Crooked Rain reissue many, many times.

Yay, pd is part of my club! How are you this fine morning? Did you have some lady onions on a toasted bagel this morning? Did they sing to you?

PD said...

No, I had a Twix bar! and an espresso. I am wired.

PD said...

Fb, I am overjoyed about my club membership. I will bring some Pavement to the studio today.

i have to train ANOTHER person this week. I just met him. He seems nice so I cannot be mean I guess.

We watched this drug documentary last night and now I just keep wanting to drop some acid. Out on Fire Island or somethign. not here at beige.

PD said...

Acid on the beach sounds good right about now. But I got a good buzz going on chocolate and coffee.

PD said...

FB, you train everyone 'cause they want to learn from the best. just sayin.

fairy butler said...

I might like to spice up this training with a little ass-slapping of inappropriate touching under the desk. I'm feeling frisky this morning. Maybe a little ear blowing?

pd, i am jealous of your chocolate. my new crown deal does not allow me to eat the peaches and creams. lame.

PD said...

Ear blowing--as he leans in to look at the monitor.

Fairy, please slap me in the ass, please?

I must say that I revert to the eternal kid sometimes with the new musix. I really do - but maybe it's with a slightly different perspective now than the days of the 800$ giant loft and thrift store clothes on the bad side of town, you know? sigh. responsiblities, future. no. hates. but there is no choice but to suck it up.

does everything feel more and more speeded up all the time or is it just me?

I don't know Pavement at all. But I still love the music I listened to in the 90's.

For me 1993 was all about Nirvna, the Breeders, Stone Temple Pilots. Those were dark days but then 1994 brit pop started taking off. Blur, Elastica, Suede, Super Furry Animals, those are my best 1990's associations. I'll check out pavement. Someone has to burn me a disk.

"they" say the less time you have the faster is your perception of it and the more time you have (like when your waiting in line for something) the slower is your perception of it. So yes, time does seem to speed up as you get older and it becomes more prescious.

only 4 more hours Fb...

fairy butler said...

corny i will burn you a disc. you must know pavement though. maybe it just didn't stick?

my downstairs neighbor, and later very good friend, played nirvana's bleach every day while were in undergrad school. he was also a member of subpops record of the month or week or whatever it was club. the first time i heard pavement, it was before slanted/enchanted came out, just a single I was hooked.

i think i have seen pavement live 3 times? all in chicago. one time was at lollapalooza outside and they were kind of bad. but i was way too sober and the crowd wasn't really into it. I think they were supporting the wowee zowee record. the other times were prior to that and both really great. one was for drag city invitational with smog and royal trux and some other bands I can't remember. but the best show was in support of crooked rain. I remember drinking a lot of gin prior to the show and wandering on my own through the crowds. it was such a happy evening. that's what I remember about it. ah, memories.

fairy butler said...

i have a very distinct memory of that show. with the gin. ?? so fun.

Corny said...

two minutes till tea time.

fairy butler said...

no, i wasn't there for some reason. but i saw them with gary young on the dragcity show. i think...? can't rmember.

Speaking of music...guess what song is in my head FB? I heard it on the street today. "You gonna catch me...."

Anonymous said...

ahhh. you guys. I am just catching up. AA I hope you shmoozed it up at the industry shindig and drank a lot of free comapny purchased booze.

Bleach was a fave of mine. genetically pedisposed I guess. I knew so many kids from Montana when I was in my twenties who migrated to Seattle to be in bands. Some are still at it and putting out great music. They were the ones who introduced to the music in my backyard.
