has anyone seen these in person?

Franklin Evans - shows at Jeff Bailey Gallery. I just came across this online and it is doing something for me. You know, when you come across another artist who is hitting that spot you are after at the moment? These look really compelling and beautiful, dense and wandering. I'm just wondering what they look like in person and what others think of these. (taking a cue from painternyc's excellent blog here)

i keep wanting to make non-objective paintings, but then it never works out. these are maybe a little complicated. ??

I saw this show in the fall with HP. I didn't like it as much in person as on web. FB, it was that case of overlap that I mentioned. Weird feelings. Anyway, they were very papery and had to come out into 3 dimensions for some reason.

I don't not like them. They just weren't as great as I thought they would be. I think he might be in the biennial? Could be wrong. There was talk somewhere, if I recall......I dunno.

Me getty me studio ready. Everything looks weird and unfinished. How can it be after so much time spent on these things (some of the big ones have taken almost 2 years) they still don't feel ready??????? I am harming myself in the manner of the tapeworm. I must stoppit at once.

the tapeworms must enter shavasana tout suite. feel the force, the one. you will shine mm, i can feel it. i can sense your relics glowing in anticipation.

yeah, the 3-dimension paper situation sounds problematic mm. are they smallish then? they do look nice on the internets though.

maybe this gallery should take out all the overlaps and replace with the real deals? right?

and stop putting a sculpture in the corner with every show. (getting in troubs now)

I agree. Stop with the constant need to make paper sculptures. No likey one bit.

Replace overlap with real thing, yes. I met him once and he liked a drawing of mine in a group show. Said he might want to come over. Smartly, I never followed up. This was a year and a half ago now. Maybe 2. Oopsies. Brilliant move on my part, wouldn't you say?

you have better things cooking mm. it's ok. he would probably still want to visit though. when i think about this visit stuff for meself i immediately want to die. just slit the throat - here and now. ouch. pouring on the rubbing alcohol. scalding tire iron.

it is easier to begin digging my own grave.

FB, Mr. B. put me in a group show there a while back, and he was great to deal with. We could go in together & I could introduce you if you want...

THese look to be in your realm. Or in a realm circyling within the same solar system as your realm.

sloth, you are sweet peach, i may very well take you up on this. i need to do something non-killing.

I know, FB. There is also a blogging-hangover phenomenon that I have been discovering lately...

And anytime you want to drop by the aforementioned gallery, let me know. He is very not-scary.

fb- how weird - i just had this artist over to my studio last week! i want to go to his studio too, so maybe you should come with, it will be fun. also i am going to be in a show that he organized that is some kind of drawing web where each person responds to anothers drawing. it will be at lmak projects in williamsburg on n 6th street (i believe) opens feb 17. ANYWAY - yeah, they look super cool. havent seen them in person yet either.

I think his work is very spirally and fun house, but lacks ambition in scale. Kind of cool but not.

If they were slick oil paintings or at least on a sturdy surface instead of warpy paper that is warping from wetness and not necessarily intentional then they would be sexier.

Graphically they are nice
