developments in relic-related things

i am at war with the buffalo painting. note: not the relic below i have many photos from different stages. perhaps when the war is over the progression, digression, retardation festival can be documented. this fucking painting is killing me. I punish it but ... nothing. sick of my own decisions. banging head. listening to incredibly loud music. killing. anyway.

it seems as though i may be doing the art work for an album. odd happenings. the lettering and whole bit. i am supposed to be speaking with the label or whatever soon. the band is from chicago called the fake fictions. ? anyone anyone? they have a website thefakefictions.com i have no idea where they found me. i have no idea how or why. like usual.

here is my self-portrait as buffalo. a somber meditation? (i just took a bunch of pics and this off -drawing turned out the best as a jpg for some reason. i wasn't even sure i liked, but somehow it looks better from my nest?)

it is very painful to carry that tree on my back. but birds live in it and i don't want to disturb, you know.

I LOVE THIS DRAWING! It is crazysweet, like the FB. Is it for sale? I want to look at it every day, and think Ferdinand thoughts.

(FB, I am currently being beaten up by 3 different paintings in the studio. Two have been underway for months now. SO sick of looking at them... will post pics when done (soon, I think).)

FB this is gorgeous. I would like to come see your buffalo madness. The painting you refer to. I totally understant the struggle with paintings as well, i have at least 20 unfinished buggers, big and small, that are going rampantly nowhere fast. I keep saying focus, and then I only get a couple of inches. With much painting out, painting back in. I want to see the stuff you are making in the shack.

Great buffalo. Sad but strong.

the problem is - when the painting is so close - mostly good and now i cannot seal the deal. i try this i try that. I try to do too many things so I always have to take stuff out and decide what makes sense. then i worry it is too flat and boring. then i end up putting some big dumb shape in. this is what always happens. i can't let it alone for much more than a few days. no self control. so. it's probably not that bad and will be fine. but it doesn't feel new anymore - oh well. they all can't be winners i guess.

i am starting something else which arthur refers to as the buffalo pimp cup. i think it has much greater potential than the one currently in strife.

Sloth, please post your pics. So so so curious!!! Maybe we can trade drawings or something.

Lets do the roundrobin shack visits. I am not quite ready. i need to finish a few more things. but soon soon.

PD, you analogy is EXCELLENT.

pd, you are cute! The relics below are more complicated so they suffer from the format me thinks.

This new one looks very Dr. Seuss in your use of line. Do you like John Bankston's work? He shows at Jack Shainman. This reminds me of that a little...

i have engrained dr.seuss. scary, isn't it? sometimes i think i should be just illustrating children's books. ?

i just checked on john bankston's work on the js website. i was unfamiliar with it. but yeah, i do like the style of drawing. the content is way way way different though so it's sort of hard to compare. i shun the human figure. so....

I am agreeing with PD. Your relic is much stronger than those below.

FB Your buffalo is wonderful! The tree is like the explosion of thoughts in his mind. He is burdened by them maybe and yet they are beautiful and alive.

I like the buffalo. :)

I like the weird random yahoo adds on your flicker page that have nothing to do with the image but share a common word with the title too.

hehe.

Hi. This is Nick from the Fake Fictions. I hope I don't freak you out by posting here, we are narcissists who google our own band all day and thus find every reference to ourselves.
We emailed you because we usually do our own art for CDs and fliers but this cd is more "important" for us (first we didn't record and distribute ourselves) and we couldn't come up with something suitable on our own so we started looking at other artists, and we actually had your Fred Flair calendar so we found your website and liked a lot of that art so we thought we'd email you just on a whim, figuring we'd never hear back. But we did. We're not famous or anything, no one will have heard of us, but we play around Chicago a fair amount and we've saved up some money from playing shows and we want this CD to be really nice. And we think your art kind of matches up with how we sound in some ways. Anyways, this is all kind of new to us too, we're pretty DIY and aren't used to farming out creative aspects of our work to other people, so we understand if it's weird to you because it's weird to us. But we'll talk more over email, I hope.
