flood

so who else spent today with buckets, sponges, and an assortment of old towels crouched in the corner of a basement? anyone? anyone?

clearly, jesus hates me. or the water table, or the storm drains, or something, hates me. the flood was just a strongish trickle and nothing is ruined minus some wet drywall, but what a way to waste a day off. now we are left wondering... was this only a rogue attack? a random concurrence of high tide/storm/direction of rain/nor'easter that will only flood like this once every 3 years or is this a new fun game that will need to be addressed in the form of major waterproofing, 25,0000$ dig up storm drain, etc. we have had a tiny bit of water in this one place a few times over the years but today was GALLONS. really. gallons...

i am waiting for brooklyn to get so wet that it breaks off and heads south to warmer climes.

fuck. why? why? i may have to stay home tomorrow from beige and pretend to be a broom from fantasia.

now i must drink. bye.

hallo fb. Sorry to hear about the floods. I am hoping that this is a random occurance which will only happen in times of extreme pestilence.

I am having the water window disaster wherein water shows what a powerful force it is by shoving its way through the wooden window frames. I've had this prob before. It took two years to get the problem fixed. Mushrooms grew out of my window sills. Serious.

At least you don't have to wait for lazy guy to come around and fix when he feels like.

We have a leak in our roof, water drips down smack on my pillow forcing me to sleep at the bottom of the bed, like a dog. Also when I was on the roof cleaning my gutters the other day I noticed the chimney is open at the top, (our fire places don't workn they're bricked up. ) I thought it was weird but couldnt figure out why. Now I'm worried that the chimneys are filled up with water, could this happen? Where is the rain-water thats been falling into the chimney going? I'm afraid.

Krix, the mushroom sills sound very nice and cozy in a winnie-the-poo kind of way.

the leak has calmed a little - i guess as the water level in the ground finally drains it will stop. it sounds like flooding is happening to lots of people so i don't feel quite as bad. the rain was pretty fierce - like the wettest day in the last 100 years says nYone. so this flooding could be a rogue thing. we'll wait and see if it happens again before calling in the sewer sump pump people.

corny, that sucks about the leak. I also have been there although no drip on the face. you might want to have a roofer guy come take a took, esp about the chimney. we had our roof fixed a few years back and it is 100 times better and didn't cost much at all. one day of work.?

why can't it just be sunny and warm and dry and normal outside all the time?

Gak, I was wondering about this scenario because of previous house condoms, etc. I hope you get all dried out. They say its all over tomorrow, and that it is the 2nd most rain we have had in history. Evidently the park across from where I live is the highest point in brooklyn. Not to brag, just sayin' :)

Good Luck !

Corns, that is a good observation. I would love to spend time in the 100 acre woods. I would hang out with Owl and try to determine how many licks it takes to get to the center of a tootsie roll pop.

fb, i am very sorry to hear about your day of bailing; having lived with many leaks over the years, I know it can be crazy-making like the chinese water torture.

yes, jesus hates all of us here on the east coast apparently. and i just want to say on the record: jesus can bite me.

here are some helpful suggestions for future wrath-of-jesus type floods:

1. you could literally make lemonade out of those lemons by mixing in some Countrytime mix and sell it to passing motorists

2. install a Flowrider® Perpetual Wave Pool in the basement and host actual Norf*ckneaster surf parties.

3. add some floating lily pads and voila: a Spa is born.

flood update. it is all better now. i will have to patch some drywall and re-attach the beautiful plastic cove base along the bottom of the wall but other than that i think it's all fine.

whew fb, must be a relief. mr. slothy talked to a guy at beige who had to be taken to his NJ house in a boat yesterday... eeks.
