new, odd relics

it seems that oddity and greeting cards are the main focus for me these days. and what cats think about. i think that is going to be the title for the one below what cats think about but it has a touch of the pony show too. yup.

what_cats

here is the drawing inspired by pd - i call it 'robotic arm disco under the night sky' - one might wonder if these relics are both by the same person. yes. i know. i suffer from schizoidness. i am trying to remember other ways to make relics and hence.
for_pd

this is the 3rd. there was a unicorn in the basket but then he had to go invisible but you can still see part of his horn.
unicorn_whiteout

i am totally oversharing maybe. I dunno. forgive me. i suffer from a vast void of upcoming exhibitions. no one wants a basket of pony show art! i just don't get it. maybe i can enter one of these at the state fair (the mm state fair in pennsylvania) under a pen name.

these are very beautiful fb.
esp. the one in the middle.

I agree...BEAUTIFUL. And I must say the one in the middle (of a robotic nature, with that lovely charcoal move on top) is my fava-fave. Is that okay to say? Since it is all robotic and all? I think the reason why I love it is that the areas of pure color really move through the images and linear marks in a fluid way--it feels like everything is suspended in an interesting way.

Good lucks at the beige, FB!

Oh the cat head in the cloud in the top one is so amazing...as is the prancing unicorn.

Hi FB! I am transfixed by he kitty in the cloud looking down on the crazypants tree and the little pony show. Sometimes I catch Scout staring at a blank wall... now I know what she's looking at. Kitty head in cloud is like a little godhead, which is of course how they think of themselves. I love these relics, fb; thank you times one million for sharing them... please please keep 'em coming.

FB, These are beautiful. i love the kitty face godhead too and the bejeweled tree. I love them.

i just gave notice. it's all good. catharsis.

sloth said...

WOOOO! Way to go FB! How did they react? You must be relieved/excited. Much respect & admiration for you, fb.

Congrats on notice giving
woo-hoo!

Great works, I'm very very partial to the magic floaty world of drippy rainbow and kite tree with invisable flower disk hovering around ponies and kitty face godhead cloud. The second pic is so loose and beautiful, I like how you move in and out of abstraction/magical realism.

YES! No more crappy beige for FB! Hooray! You are free to roam the land of rainbows and kitties for a while.

thanks guys. i cannot tell you how much better i feel. weight off shoulders. unloaded mind. god. it's crazy. and my beige may even have something diff for me depending. i am not counting on it. but i laid it all on out. what I want to do. relief. today, the fear is less about the future. although i said i would stick it out through the end of the month. cord is cut. huzzah.

on the relic topic, i am loose ends sort of. i feel like i could write a paper on the disjunctures of what art is. i don't know. i feel like the second one looks a little too much like art art for the fb.

i actually have to accomplish some stuff here. i've been weirding out all morning.

fairy butler said...

the weirding way

Anonymous said...

FB! I am so happy for you! This is the best thing!

Anonymous said...

I don't know, that second one does not feel to Art, Arty to me. It's looser than the others, but they all have great energy. Anywho...I alos like disjunctures.

Anonymous said...

i meant TOO art arty...

fairy butler said...

well, anyway pd, if this fall i can lull you to the shack i can pick your brain on such matters. i do not understand aesthetic matters and such. confusion but murky something on the horizon.

i feel completely WEIRD today. need to calm down.

fairy butler said...

have you heard that record 'we are the pipettes' ? i am listening to it right now. it's funny.

dubz said...

fb, i don't think the second one is too arty either. and it doesn't look like someone else made it. it really shows what a great drawing hand you have. i'm also really blown away by your compositions. you totally know what you're doing but there's something totally freestyle about them... it's like the second one is conceptual context for the other two.
congrats on giving notice. i have fantasies about not returning after my vacation...

dubz said...

dude... did i use the word "totally" enough? please substitute "tubular" for the second one.

Very beautiful, fb. Thanks for sharing. More sometime, I hope.

fb congrats!!! this is superb news.

hearts go out to the relics, especially number one.

Anonymous said...

No need to lure me. I am waiting for the relic-viewing in the reals.

I never heard that record, but it sounds like a good one.

You are feeling weird 'cause you are free!! Free at last.

Has anyone seen JESUS IS MAGIC? The Sara Silverman video? The stand-up part is really funny, but her music vids are not so funny.
Anyway, she does this part where she says "GUess what Martin Luther King...I had a dream too..." and she goes on to describe the typical surrealistic dream. Very funny.

fairy butler said...

pd, i watched that jesus is magic thing the other weekend. i no think so funny, there were moments - sure - but overall i wasn't really buying it. there were like 3-5 really good moments you know?

pd, corns, do you have the new 'be your own pet' record - the full length that is just out? it's really straightforward punk/pop but I love it. we are doing a listening party at beige today. my friend brought in some new ones: the pipettes which i wanted to hear and the dirty pretty things, both pretty good.

listening to a band called the Len Price 3 - its also good. very Nuggets throwback.

fairy butler said...

dubz, you can totally say totally as many times as you like. thanks for the props. although I think i kinda suck at composition - well, meaning that I am in the twilight zone of greenberg space whatever versus pictorial space, versus who the fuck knows. basically i'm kind of lazy sometimes. rigor and thoughts not so much sometimes.

fairy butler said...

it's hard to know what is not stupid and/or boring.

dubz said...

that's cuz it's, like, totally subjective.

fairy butler said...

oh my god, totally!

Anonymous said...

but some will assert it isn't subjective - a focus group will prefer, as a group, one thing to the other. oh, i don't know. i was ganged up on a lot in grad school.

Anonymous said...

mm knows.

Anonymous said...

Totally, JESUS IS MAGIC is hit or miss. I just liked the times she was pretty nasty. The music stuff was terrible, totally.
Fer, like, sure, grad school is usually about the rumbles. So annoying, right?

sloth said...

FB, you so DO NOT SUCK at composition! Maybe you aren't aware of your mad compositional skillz, but they are there, maybe so internalized as to be unconscious. I totally, really, totally still have dents in my head from grad school, and we're talking years and years ago. I need a dent-puller or a plunger or something.

Anonymous said...

you must listen to your spirit animal. The cat and the kitten unite in joyous pleasure. FB, your compositions are fluid and right on, the internal mind making the rightness external. It is intuitive rightness, goodness, some would venture to say, godliness. Me. Now is the moment of shedding. The cat hairs will grow and smell softer. Haleluia to you.

your beige is a fur ball.

Nice arts Fb, I like the middle one the most because it has anger and I can relate today. Congrats on the Beige change-up too. High5 and shit. As for Sarah Silverman...is it really worth fucking Jimmy Kimmel to have your jokes heard? She was mildly entertaining at the Courtney Love roast, but how hard can it be to roast C.L.?

Anonymous said...

jimmy kimmel sux too though. so i don't know if that has any bearing toods. they both sort of suck. stand up is not my fav. in general.

i have to be honest, the fact that the middle one is worrying is bothering me. shoot.

Anonymous said...

is "winning" - not "worrying" although it is worrying. reowhoah.

Anonymous said...

I don't know if winning is the right word. I am just pissy today and I like the energy there. Normaly I would go for the cat in the cloud. My Kimmel coment was based purely on looks not talent, like is it worth it to fuck a narcaleptic fratboy.

I have a be your own pet single they released in 2005 which has Damm Damm leash and two other songs. The video is very cute too, I like but not sure I'm committed to investing in the full length CD. Dirty Pretty Things, love love love. That is Caral Barat of the Libertines (the 21 centuries best band, in my opinion) new band. The first cut on that album is what I opened my set with at the last Spin Art party, so rocking! The pipettes chaff my hide. I'm really likeing The Raconteurs and Lilly Allen at the moment.

fairy butler said...

corns, i can burn you a copy of the be your own pet if yu want. yeah, i want the raconteurs or howevr you spell that. i have heard some of it in restaurants and stuff and it seems good. that's funny the pipettes chaff corns. i kind of liked it but it's kind of cheesy too. it might grate over time. i stole all the cds for the night to burn them from my friend. i'm gonna miss this aspect of my beige when i am no longer there. maybe i will burn some extra cds to hand out thursday.

Anonymous said...

burn me the be your own pet...please! i heard a few songs and love them. Also interested in more of dirty pretty things.

oh fb, just face the fact that the middle one rocks! They all do, but I guess that energy in the middle one is really somethin'. but you are allowed not to like it.

I'd love to have a copy of be your own pet... that would be swell. About the pipettes, I guess it's that phil Spector sound that chaffs though I love the original girl bands. If you feel inclined, might you burn me a copy? That song Pull Shapes is admitedly pretty Sticky

Have you heard the Chalets? Check out the cool Video for "feel the machine"

hey FB!

great new work! i'm thinking my two favorites are the top and bottom. i like all the different textures and complications of the first floaty one, and also the mix of stuff happening in the third... the drawing basket, washiness, painty-ness, and then flatness of some of the flowers - like a bouquet of diferent styles or handlings, unified by subject and color.

sincerely, the phantom.
