Congrats Betsy!

Miss Lola B and I attended a marvelous poetry reading last night starring Betsy Andrews. Her poems heaped multi-layered image upon image in a cacaphonous tumbleweed style. Nature and landscape displayed their sublime ways, their tender beauty and seizing harshness. Listening to the poems was like speeding down the highway at 150 mph with an expert driver at the wheel. We were almost on the verge a couple of times, but just in time were put right again. Oh, and the radio was on Hot 97. And we stopped at the ATM and at PluckU's for wings.

Betsy just won The University of Wisconsin's Brittingham Prize for her manuscript "New Jersey." The Univ of Wisc Press will be publishing this due out in October with a reading scheduled in Madison for November. She read quite a bit from this book last night - it's a powerhouse of language and images and memory and history. Congratulations Betsy!!!

nice! and congrats to her. Really like "Cocktails at 8."

HFP is pals with the editor/publisher of Fence (poetry) magazine, and did the overall design & several individual issues, so we go to the launch parties once in awhile, & hang out with poetic types.

i have seen Fence. it seems like a pretty cool little mag. I need to remember to go to more literary things. Good to step outside the visual relic scene once in awhile.

I like her poetry, FB. I like going to reading when there is good work AND a good reader. Sometimes I go to things for work and I snore...like a certain SOuth African Nobel Prize winner that I am afraid to mention by name.
