I haven't seen any of this work but it is rare to see such a negative, crabby review. Why were these folks unfortunate enough to be singled out when there is so so so much bad on any given weekend? It just struck me as odd.??

ok, things are getting weirder. Artists must go underground to where it is safe. Jerry Saltz's review of Artforum Diary. Good. But now I know of this Artforum diary and i cannot believe what I am seeing.
Fairy, this kind of behavior, of reading and wanting to see and anticipate all cannot be avoided under your circumstance. I see that you are feeling vulnerable, that you will be judged. But please notice that the badness is reserved only for those whose success feels unwarranted to some. You are a tender new one, no one will be wanting to take you down a notch. This Charlie Finch is bombastic and no one takes him totally seriously, I don't think. Please note his last contribution to artnet where he is avidly promoting sexy young video artist babe who puts herself in provocative situations.
Please remain calm. I know this is virtually impossible, but I must say it. You will not feel totally yourself again for many months...
yes, i did read that sexy video person post but I got bored and didn't finish it. This CF is a big nothing, I know. It is hard. I need to calm down. However, I attended an arts event last night and behaved like a normal person, so perhaps there is hope. I did drink close to a bottle of champagne by myself, but sometimes this is necessary. Farts.

May I add that Mr. Finch is a shmuck of the highest order and that he never plays beneath the slabs. I think Jerry Shmaltz is no great shakes, but much better than Finchman.

I feel that lumping these shows into "bad derivative painting" is not fair or true. I don't see why he groups these artists together. As far as my personal feelings on the work... I saw the A. Gartrell and the LFL show. They weren't bad. I guess I felt relatively neutral - but I feel like that a lot. I would agree that they referenced much but so what?
